Poison ivy and the risk of a collision

Auto accidents occur for many reasons, such as failing to stop, drinking and driving and many other risk factors that are widely recognized. However, less common hazards can also lead to a collision, such as a poison ivy rash. During this time of year, poison ivy is prevalent in some parts of the country, and people who are exposed to poison ivy may struggle with extremely painful, itchy rashes. Not only can these rashes cause a great deal of discomfort, but they may even make a driver more likely to collide with another vehicle.

Sometimes, people who are exposed to poison ivy may only have a couple of small bumps or a minor rash. However, some people are very sensitive to poison ivy or they may develop a large rash due to a lack of familiarity with the plant and how to avoid it. Drivers may take their hands off of the wheel to itch a rash, or they may move their leg due to discomfort, which can be very dangerous while on the road. Moreover, poison ivy may cause someone to lose a considerable amount of sleep or take medication to help with their symptoms, which can lead to driver fatigue and drowsy driving.

These are just some of the ways that poison ivy can lead to a collision. If you were hit by a driver who was struggling with poison ivy at the time of the accident, you may need to bring this detail up in the courtroom.
